Spring crops have already been sown on 16% of the planned area: leaders of the sowing campaign

Ukrainian farmers have sown 926,000 hectares of spring crops, and the leaders in terms of sowing rates are Odesa, Ternopil, Poltava, Mykolaiv, and Vinnytsia regions. They plan to increase the area under wheat.

In Ukraine, during the current sowing campaign, 926 thousand hectares of spring grains have already been sown, or 16% of the planned area, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported on Friday, UNN writes.

As of April 4, 2025, farmers of all regions of Ukraine have sown 926 thousand hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops. Farmers have also started sowing sunflower

Currently, the largest area of crops falls on barley -  551.8 thousand hectares. 116.5 thousand hectares of spring wheat, 164.3 thousand hectares of peas, 82.3 thousand hectares of oats have already been sown.

Regions-leaders in terms of sowing:

  • Odesa region: 92.3 thousand hectares (wheat – 5.8 thousand hectares, barley – 30.1 thousand hectares, peas – 51.9 thousand hectares, oats – 1.3 thousand hectares);
    • Ternopil region: 87.4 thousand hectares (wheat – 14 thousand hectares, barley – 63.8 thousand hectares, peas – 4.1 thousand hectares, oats – 5.1 thousand hectares);
      • Poltava region: 83.2 thousand hectares (wheat – 4.2 thousand hectares, barley – 66.5 thousand hectares, peas – 9.4 thousand hectares, oats – 3.1 thousand hectares);
        • Mykolaiv region: 73.6 thousand hectares (wheat – 4.5 thousand hectares, barley – 42 thousand hectares, peas – 26.5 thousand hectares, oats – 0.6 thousand hectares);
          • Vinnytsia region: 72.6 thousand hectares (wheat – 11.5 thousand hectares, barley – 53 thousand hectares, peas – 7 thousand hectares, oats – 1.1 thousand hectares).

            Sunflowers were sown on 33 thousand hectares.

            Sugar beets are sown on an area of 64.8 thousand hectares.

            Soybeans are sown on an area of 2.6 thousand hectares.

            In total, it is planned to sow more than 5.7 million hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops in 2025, which corresponds to the level of 2024. The main feature of the new season will be an increase in the area under spring wheat by 28%, to 222.8 thousand hectares. Such changes in the structure of crops correspond to the stable demand for wheat from processing enterprises and exporters, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy noted.
