According to court spokesperson Lee Sang-jin, the hearing began on Monday, December 16.
After the impeachment ruling was passed, Yoon was removed from power and is awaiting a court decision on whether he will be removed or reinstated, which could take up to 180 days from the date of the impeachment ruling. In previous cases, the process usually took 2-3 months.
The court is supposed to consist of nine members, but currently only six judges are working there. The opposition demands that the remaining candidates be approved in December. The decision on their appointment will be made by the acting president.
The speaker of the National Assembly assured that the parliament would work quickly to appoint new judges, two of whom were nominated by the opposition and one by the ruling party.
