In Uzhhorod, law enforcement officers have uncovered a scheme for illegal earnings from secondary raw materials at the city's municipal solid waste landfill. Among the suspects are the director of a municipal enterprise and a current member of the city council. This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office, according to UNN.

According to the investigation, the official acted in conspiracy with two representatives of private businesses. They organized the unofficial sorting of recyclable materials from the landfill without contracts, accounting records, or payments to the local budget.
The investigation believes that in exchange for access to the landfill and assistance in their operations, the entrepreneurs handed over a portion of the profits to the official.
In March-April 2026, law enforcement documented his receipt of 50,000 hryvnias in illegal benefits.
According to the investigation, plastic, waste paper, and polyethylene were systematically sorted from the landfill, accumulated, transported, and handed over to a private company for further sale.
According to preliminary estimates, from May 2025 to April 2026, nearly 100 tons of plastic, over 120 tons of waste paper, and several tons of polyethylene were illegally sold. The total amount of damages is estimated at over 660,000 hryvnias.
The deputy was notified of suspicion of abuse of office, which led to grave consequences. The other two suspects are charged with aiding and abetting.
