The Office of the President of Ukraine has commented on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's statements about a "Christmas truce," noting that his proposal was a PR stunt used by Russia to disguise the preparation of a missile strike on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. This was stated by Dmytro Lytvyn, the President's communications advisor, in response to a request from BBC Ukraine, UNN reports.
The Office of the President of Ukraine noted that Hungary did not warn Ukraine about its talks with Putin and did not coordinate its actions with Kyiv. According to Lytvyn, Orban did not receive any authorization from Ukraine to conduct the talks.
He added that Orban's PR campaign was used by Moscow to cover up preparations for a new missile attack on our energy infrastructure. Russian missiles have even moved closer to the EU's borders again.
Lytvyn emphasized that Orban, focusing on PR, actually helped Russia prepare a new attack on Ukraine. As a result of the recent shelling, many Ukrainians were left without electricity, and work is underway to restore the energy infrastructure.
"Ukraine is constantly working with all partners to coordinate efforts to put pressure on Russia and ensure real peace with reliable guarantees," Lytvyn added, emphasizing the importance of peace through strength.

Orban saidthat he had offered Ukraine a "Christmas truce" and a prisoner exchange, but, according to the Presidential Office, Ukraine had not been informed of such initiatives. The President's Office added that negotiations on the exchange of prisoners have been ongoing for two weeks and are not related to Orban's statements.
