Russian attacks and "cannibalization" of power units reduce generation in Ukraine - Kudrytskyi

Ukraine has strategically lost a significant portion of its traditional electricity generation due to Russian strikes and the forced dismantling of equipment at power plants. This was reported by former Ukrenergo head Volodymyr Kudrytskyi in an interview with the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, as conveyed by UNN.

Details

According to him, many power units at thermal power plants were destroyed or damaged, and to repair others, it was necessary to dismantle already destroyed units for spare parts.

A large number of power plants were destroyed or occupied by the Russians. Many power units underwent a process of so-called cannibalization – when equipment from completely destroyed units was removed to repair those that could still be launched. But these destroyed units themselves cannot be restored after that.

- Kudrytskyi explained.

He emphasized that traditional generation, inherited from Soviet times – nuclear, coal, gas-fired thermal power plants, and hydroelectric power plants – is gradually decreasing.

Recall

Naftogaz Group received 50 million euros from the EIB to ensure critical gas imports and support Ukraine's energy resilience during the winter. The funds will allow for the purchase of fuel for thermal power plants and stable gas supply, and will also be reinvested in renewable energy.
