The Russian company Urals has started supplying oil to Asia via the Arctic Ocean. The first tanker with 100,000 tons of oil left the port of Primorsk for China via the Barents Sea.

This month, the Russian company Urals started supplying oil from ports in the west of the country to Asia via the Arctic Ocean. This was reported by the Russian media, UNN reported.

Details

It is noted that the Northern Sea Route is significantly shorter than the traditional route of oil exports from the Baltic and northern ports of the Russian Federation to Asia, which reduces delivery times.

Nevertheless, it is considered difficult to navigate due to the year-round ice cover, and therefore ships can only pass through here if accompanied by icebreakers.

However, the relevance of the route is growing as relations between Russia and the West deteriorate.

It is noted that this year, the first ship to deliver oil via this route was the Radkomflot tanker Viktor Bakaev. It loaded 100,000 tons of Urals oil on board in the port of Primorsk on July 21 and is already heading to Asia via the Barents Sea, LSEG data showed.

It is not yet known at which port the oil will be unloaded, but sources say that the Urals shipment will be delivered to China.

However, it can be transferred to another tanker on a side-by-side basis in the Russian Far Eastern waters.
