Russians recruit Africans through job advertisements, seize their passports, and force them to go to war. Another Nigerian national was liquidated in the Kharkiv region.

Russians continue to recruit mercenaries from African countries for the war against Ukraine – recently, another Nigerian citizen died after signing a contract. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Details

Nigerian Ayebusiwa Olabode Victor was recruited into the Russian occupation army and subsequently liquidated in the Kharkiv region. As noted by the GUR, Russians recruit African mercenaries through social media job advertisements.

Upon arrival in Russia, the mercenaries are met at airports in Moscow and other cities. Their passports are immediately confiscated under the pretext of processing permits, and they are housed in hostels for several days.

But instead of job vacancies, the newly arrived Africans are later offered a choice: deportation, imprisonment, or signing a contract with the Russian army. Those who sign eventually end up at a training ground, and after short-term training, they are sent to the front, where they usually perish.

The story of the aforementioned mercenary is not an exception, but a consistent practice of Russian recruiters: promises of work, flight to Russia, confiscated documents, forced contract, and the front line.

The main point in this story is the public lies of Russian officials and the aggressor state's disregard for official Nigeria's demands to stop recruiting its citizens for the criminal war

- the GUR stated.
