"On the mandate of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, today the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bucharest was summoned to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The summons was a firm response to repeated violations of Romania's airspace between July 24 and 26, 2026, during which the Romanian Armed Forces shot down three drones that entered the national territory without authorization," the Romanian Foreign Ministry statement said.
As noted, "the Russian diplomat was presented with fragments of a drone destroyed on Romanian territory, the components of which, according to the official investigation by the Prosecutor's Office, are of Russian origin."
"During the meeting, the Romanian side expressed a firm protest against these illegal and irresponsible actions and emphasized the clear determination of responsibility. - the Romanian Foreign Ministry statement reads. - It was stressed that it is absolutely unacceptable and intolerable for the Russian Federation to continue violating Romania's airspace, which is also the airspace of NATO and the European Union. The Romanian side emphasized that the Russian Federation bears sole responsibility for all these serious incidents and for the deterioration of the regional security situation."
During the meeting, the Russian ambassador was handed an official verbal note informing him of the decision to declare a member of the Russian Federation's mission in Bucharest persona non grata and demanding that he leave Romanian territory within 5 days
