The former Minister of Defense of Ukraine believes 2026 is a chance to freeze the war due to Russia's internal problems. According to him, the Kremlin needs a pause to restore resources and for the survival of its economy.

Former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov stated that 2026 could become an opportunity to freeze the war, as the Kremlin is interested in a pause to restore its resources. He shared this in the "Peace and Power of Ukraine" podcast by Federal News Wire, reports UNN.

According to Reznikov, he considers the current year a potential chance to end the active phase of hostilities.

"I still think that this year remains a window of opportunity for freezing this war,"

he stated.

At the same time, the former minister clarified that he is speaking specifically about "freezing" the war, not its complete conclusion. Furthermore, he noted that Russia itself may seek to freeze the war due to economic difficulties and the need to restore military capabilities.

"It is a matter of the Kremlin's interest to freeze this war because they need time to restore capacity if they truly want to survive, and also because they have serious economic problems,"
