New York City and cities along the east coast of the United States are assessing the aftermath of a rare earthquake that struck near Lebanon, New Jersey. The 4.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 10:23 local time and was felt from Pennsylvania to Connecticut.
Officials are currently assessing the safety of the infrastructure, and the US Geological Survey has recorded at least six aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 4.0.
In addition, the Statue of Liberty in New York City was observed to be shaking, and workers and residents of several city districts reported strong vibrations.
At the UN Security Council headquarters, the meeting on Gaza was temporarily suspended due to these shocks.
