Nuclear weapons have 'no place' in Iran's nuclear doctrine, says foreign ministry spokesman

The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that nuclear weapons have no place in Iran's nuclear doctrine, reiterating the country's position that the program serves only peaceful purposes.

Iran's nuclear doctrine currently has no place for nuclear weapons, the country's Foreign Ministry says, a statement that came after the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that Tehran could change its nuclear policy because of Israel's actions, UNN reports citing Reuters.

- Ministry spokesman Nasser Qanaani said during a press conference in Tehran.

Earlier, Ahmad Khakhtalab, the Guard commander in charge of nuclear security, said that Israeli threats could push Tehran to "revise its nuclear doctrine and deviate from its previous considerations.

Nasser Kanani also noted that the recent attack on Isfahan in central Iran "cost nothing"; according to the official, "the enemy (Israel) knew it could not use it.
