Nintendo shares fell sharply on Monday after the company announced a delay in pre-ordering the Switch 2 console in the US. The company made this decision due to uncertainty related to the recent increase in import duties in the US.

Recent increased customs duties introduced by US President Donald Trump include a general 10% duty on all imports and higher targeted fees on electronics from key trading partners, such as a 24% tariff on Japanese goods.
In addition, products manufactured in Vietnam, where Nintendo has moved some production to mitigate previously introduced tariffs on Chinese goods, are now subject to a 46% duty.
The company's shares, listed in Tokyo, fell 10% on Monday to their lowest level since mid-January. Despite this setback, the official launch date for Switch 2 is still set for 06/05/2025.
