Ministry of Justice prepares large-scale changes in child rights protection according to EU standards

The Ministry of Justice is preparing a draft law on child-friendly justice in accordance with EU standards. 15 Barnahus centers have been opened in Ukraine, and a registry of psychologists has been created.

The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine is preparing legislative changes to harmonize child rights protection with European standards. This was reported by UNN with reference to the press service of the department.

Acting Minister of Justice Liudmyla Suhak held a coordination meeting with international partners to define and implement key priorities for the development of child-friendly justice.

According to her, the Ministry of Justice is finalizing the preparation of a comprehensive draft law on child-friendly justice, as well as an updated National Strategy in the field of human rights, where the protection of children's rights is one of the key blocks.

Suhak emphasized that this direction is not only Ukraine's obligation within the Rule of Law Roadmap but also an urgent demand of society in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

In addition, the Ministry of Justice called on international partners for further cooperation to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with European standards and ensure the protection of children's interests in the justice system.

The department also added that with the support of UNICEF, 15 "Barnahus" centers have been opened in Ukraine (13 of them during the full-scale invasion) and a Register of 587 psychologists has been created to be involved in criminal proceedings involving children.
