The "State Logistics Operator" of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will for the first time purchase DNA systems for servicemen of the Armed Forces. This is reported by UNN with reference to the Ministry of Defense.
Details
As noted by the defense agency, these kits are a key tool for identifying the deceased, searching for missing persons, and identifying unidentified bodies. Within the framework of the procurement, it is planned to purchase 150,000 kits for a total amount of 37.8 million hryvnias.
The Ministry of Defense also stated that all genomic information will be stored in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine "On State Registration of Human Genomic Information" - in specially equipped conditions with guarantees of protection, integrity, and long-term data storage.
The collection of biological samples is a global practice and is necessary for the formation of a genomic register. It is critically important in wartime, as it significantly reduces identification times and provides legally confirmed results for the families of defenders.
Recall
The Ministry of Justice, as well as the military departments of Ukraine, published an algorithm of actions for families of missing or captured servicemen. This instruction covers the procedure for contacting state bodies, processing documents, obtaining extracts, and payments.
Also, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine supported the experimental project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on biometric identification of deceased defenders, servicemen, and civilians. This will allow for prompt identification of individuals by fingerprints and facial images.
