The Ministry of Culture has not received a response from the mayor of Italy to the call to cancel the performances at the Rome Opera by Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko, who publicly supports the Putin regime and the annexation of Crimea. This was reported by the acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy Rostislav Karandeyev to UNN.
Details
Asked whether the mayor of Rome had communicated with the Ministry of Culture and responded to the call to cancel Netrekko's performance at the Rome Opera, Karandeyev replied: "We have not received any reaction. Not only we, but also the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy appealed.
Karandeyev noted that the local authorities, as well as the authorities in Italy in general, are involved in the repertoire policy of cultural institutions located in the city and country.
"However, just like here, there is no direct subordination, so, of course, these processes are not so clear. Nevertheless, we hope that the non-administrative influence of the leadership of the Italian Republic or the City Hall will be of primary, key importance, namely, emphasizing political aspects that in this case play into the hands of the aggressor state rather than contribute to the consolidation of the European civilized community around resistance and support for Ukraine," he said.
