According to Asprey, falling glucose levels trigger the release of the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline, which awaken people from sleep. In his Instagram video, he elaborated on this.
In most people who wake up between 3 and 5 a.m. and can't go back to sleep, it's usually due to a drop in blood sugar levels
He explained that cortisol and adrenaline cause the release of extra glucose that is stored in the liver and muscles. But at the same time, cortisol and adrenaline wake up the brain.
He recommended a small snack before bedtime. Like a little honey.
