A judge in Paris takes up a complaint against Prince Mohammed bin Salman in connection with the murder of journalist Khashoggi. The case concerns torture and enforced disappearance.

In France, an investigating judge in Paris has taken up a complaint filed against Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) regarding the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, nearly eight years after his 2018 murder in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, AFP reports, according to UNN.

"An investigating judge from the crimes against humanity unit will now examine the complaint filed by TRIAL International and Reporters Without Borders (RSF)," on charges of torture and enforced disappearance, the French anti-terrorism prosecutor's office confirmed to AFP.

Saudi Arabia faced sharp criticism following the murder of this dissident journalist, for which U.S. intelligence agencies pointed to the direct responsibility of the Crown Prince, and was subsequently ostracized by the international community.

The body of the journalist, a United States resident and critic of the Saudi regime, has never been found.

Since then, the kingdom has reintegrated into the international community. At the end of 2025, during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, MBS called the murder a "huge mistake."
