In the Rivne region, a man opened fire with an assault rifle at a military notification group and a law enforcement officer; there are wounded, and the shooter is being sought, the Main Directorate of the National Police in the region reported on Thursday, UNN writes.
Yesterday, April 29, around 5:00 PM, servicemen of a notification group, together with a community police officer in the village of Verba, Dubno district, saw a man walking with a bicycle in his hands. As they approached the man to check his documents, he opened fire from an assault rifle at the military and the policeman,
The Rivne Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TCR) clarified that on April 29, "an armed attack was carried out near the village of Verba, Dubno district, against servicemen of the notification group of the second department of the Dubno District TCR."
"While moving along a designated route, an unknown citizen began firing (preliminarily) from a firearm at the vehicle of the TCR servicemen. An ambulance, representatives of the National Police, and the Rivne Zonal Department of the Military Law Enforcement Service were called to the scene," the TCR stated.
As a result of the shooting, two people were wounded.
"One serviceman and a policeman sustained injuries," the police indicated.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the attempted intentional homicide.
The identity of the perpetrator has been established. The head of the Rivne region police has launched a special police operation.
"Police are searching for the attacker. Description: 48 years old, thin build, height approximately 170 cm, short graying hair. He was wearing camouflage clothing," the police noted.
