"The attacker was detained by an off-duty police officer," said Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, calling it a "courageous act."
The attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the Porte de Clichy district in the northwest of the capital.
Women aged 19, 24, and 36 were taken to the hospital after the attack. According to local media, one of the victims is possibly pregnant.
Two women sustained serious injuries, but their condition is not life-threatening, Nuñez reported. One was stabbed in the lower back, the other in the abdomen.
Authorities have so far been unable to confirm the identity of the attacker.
According to Nuñez, during the arrest, the suspect made an "incoherent" statement, but the minister urged not to jump to conclusions about his motives.
