In occupied Crimea, a court ordered 64-year-old Valentyn Baida, a former United Russia deputy in Dzhankoi District, to be held in custody after the body of a 12-year-old girl was found in the yard of his house. This was reported by Astra, writes UNN.
Details
Baida currently works as the director of a village cultural center in the village of Chaikino. On August 7, around noon, the girl left home by bicycle and did not return. In the evening, her father reported her missing, after which police identified within an hour the house where she might have been.
According to the Russian investigation, Baida gave the schoolgirl a household gas canister that was not intended for inhalation. After inhaling its contents, the girl lost consciousness and died from acute poisoning. The man, allegedly fearing responsibility, moved the body to the backyard and began digging a pit but did not have time to finish before the police arrived.
The investigation and the defendant’s version
A criminal case was opened over the girl’s death on charges of causing death by negligence. Investigators ordered examinations to establish the exact cause of death.

Baida himself claims that the girl came to him on her own and asked him to buy a gas canister, and that he allegedly complied with her request. This version comes from the suspect himself and has not been officially confirmed by the investigation.
Baida was a deputy of the Dzhankoi District Council from United Russia until 2024. The court has now ordered him held in custody for two months as a preventive measure.
