The autonomous Honor robot covered 21 km in 50 minutes and 26 seconds at a race in Beijing. This is faster than the current human record held by Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo.

In Beijing, a humanoid robot won a robot half-marathon, covering a distance of 21 km in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, which is faster than the current world record among humans. This was reported by AP, writes UNN.

Details

The competition took place on April 19 in Beijing E-Town. The winner was a robot from Honor, which operated autonomously.

The robot's time was better than the result of Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo, who completed a half-marathon in about 57 minutes in March. Compared to last year, when the robot winner finished in 2 hours and 40 minutes, the performance has significantly improved.

Course of the competition

The race ran parallel to a human race. Some robots encountered difficulties – some fell at the start or crashed into barriers.

According to the organizers, about 40% of the participants moved autonomously, while others were remotely controlled. A separate robot controlled by an operator showed an even faster time – 48 minutes and 19 seconds, but was not recognized as the winner due to the scoring format.

Technologies and prospects

Honor engineers noted that the robot was created taking into account the parameters of human athletes and is equipped with a liquid cooling system.

Looking ahead, some of these technologies could be transferred to other fields

– said engineer Du Xiaodi.

According to the developers, despite the achievements, it will still take time before humanoid robots are widely used.
