The U.S. House of Representatives is preparing an aid package for Ukraine. The document provides for loans and new sanctions against key sectors of the Russian economy.

The House of Representatives is on track to pass a bill that would provide aid to Ukraine and impose sanctions on key segments of the Russian economy, despite opposition from Republican leaders who warn the bill would undermine negotiations aimed at achieving a stronger outcome, UNN reports with reference to the AP.

The bill, authored by Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks of New York, aims to bolster American aid to Ukraine by providing more than $1 billion in security and recovery assistance. Another $8 billion would be allocated for Ukraine's defense in the form of loans.

The publication notes that Thursday's vote could lead to the House's second major foreign policy break with Trump this week. This comes a day after the House first approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending U.S. hostilities against Iran.
