IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the nuclear safety situation at the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP is deteriorating after a drone strike near the plant on August 17. This is stated on the IAEA website, UNN reports.

It is noted that at the occupied ZNPP, representatives of the IAEA mission were informed about a drone strike that occurred outside the security zone of the plant.
The drone allegedly exploded near cooling ponds and about 100 meters from the Dnipro power line, the only 750 kilovolt (kV) line that supplies power to the ZNPP.
The IAEA team visited the site and noticed damage likely caused by a drone equipped with explosives. There were no casualties or damage to NPP equipment, but the strike occurred on the road between the two main gates of the plant, the organization said.
After that, Grossi declared a threat to nuclear safety and called on the parties to adhere to five specific principles established to protect ZNPP.
“I remain extremely concerned and reiterate my call for maximum restraint on all sides,” he said.
