Germany has announced new aid to Ukraine worth €60 million

Germany has announced €60 million in aid to Ukraine: €50 million will be channeled through the UN and NGOs, and €10 million will go to a NATO fund. Berlin is also seeking additional air defense systems.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced during his visit to Kyiv on August 22 that an additional €60 million in aid would be allocated to Ukraine. DW reports, UNN writes.

Of this amount, €50 million will be directed to UN agencies and non-governmental organizations to support Ukrainians, particularly residents of frontline areas. The funds will be used to repair housing and provide mobile sanitation modules and heating systems.

Germany will send another €10 million to a NATO fund. The money will be used, in particular, to purchase energy supplies, medical equipment, and drone-defense systems.

Wadephul also said he intended to hold talks with international partners on additional air defense systems for Ukraine.

This is still far from a promise, but I am confident that we will be able to achieve something

- the German foreign minister said.

New aid and air defense

Wadephul plans to discuss the supply of air defense systems and diplomatic efforts to end the war with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the beginning of next week.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called Germany the "undisputed leader in military, energy, financial, and humanitarian support" for Ukraine. According to him, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Berlin has provided Kyiv with €65 billion in aid.

The ministers also discussed Ukraine's preparations for winter and the protection of energy infrastructure from Russian attacks. Sybiha said that Kyiv is counting on Germany's support during the next heating season as well.
