Doug Field is leaving Ford after five years amid $19.5 billion in losses. The company is merging divisions to accelerate new product launches.

Doug Field, one of Ford Motor Company's key top managers, is leaving the company after almost five years, during which he led the electric vehicle and technology division. This is reported by Reuters, writes UNN.

Details

Field, who previously worked at Tesla and Apple, served as chief officer for electric vehicles, digital technologies, and design. Ford confirmed that he will leave the company next month.

The top manager himself noted that he plans to share the experience gained over the years of working in the industry.

Role in Ford's transformation

Field was invited to the company in 2021 to modernize the technological direction. CEO Jim Farley then called his arrival "a turning point" for the automaker.

– said Field.

Problems with electric vehicles

During his tenure, Ford revised its electric vehicle development strategy due to weaker demand and market changes. Some projects, including new models and electronic architecture, were canceled.

In December, the company wrote off about $19.5 billion in losses related to this area.

After Field's departure, the electric vehicle direction will be developed by a team led by Alan Clarke. Ford is also combining technology and manufacturing units to accelerate the launch of new products.

The company plans to update 80% of its model range in North America and 70% of its global portfolio by 2029.
