The Luce electric vehicle features 1,035 hp, a range of 530 km, and five seats in the cabin. The price of Ferrari's first production electric car is $640,000.

Ferrari introduces its first electric vehicle, the 2027 Luce, which develops 1,035 hp thanks to four electric motors, boasts a unique design, all-wheel torque vectoring, and a range of approximately 530 kilometers, writes UNN with reference to Autoblog.

The production cost is around $640,000; the car seats five people and features the largest trunk in Ferrari's history.

Details

The first electric vehicle from Maranello is 5 centimeters longer than the V12-powered Purosangue but about 5 centimeters lower, placing it in a different class. It develops a total output of 1,035 horsepower and is equipped with four permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors that are much more rear-biased, although the front ones spin at a higher frequency (30,000 vs. 25,500 rpm). Specifically, the front axle develops a maximum of 282 hp, while the rear axle produces 831 hp. The weight is 1,900 kg thanks to an all-aluminum body, but Ferrari claims the car feels approximately 390 kg lighter than it actually is.

Performance

Ferrari states that the Luce accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds if launch mode is activated by pulling a handle on the ceiling console. This adjusts the traction control system to manage wheel spin, provides a torque boost, and releases an additional 54 horsepower. Ferrari claims that driving this EV will be unique: each paddle shifter performs its own function. The left one controls five levels of energy recuperation, while the right one controls five levels of torque. Thus, while Ferrari does not call it a simulated gearbox, that is essentially what it represents: the driver uses the left paddle for the sensation of engine braking and the right one for the sensation of an enhanced push. An indicator above the speedometer functions as shift lights found in a traditional Ferrari.

Regarding noise, Ferrari has patented a system that it says captures sounds inside the rear axle, using a clever algorithm to filter out unwanted noises. In "Range" mode, you get a quiet sound; in "Perfo" mode, the loudest; and in "Tour" mode, a balance between the two. The system can also be turned off for a silent cabin. The new electric vehicles use an 800-volt architecture, and this model does as well, with a 122 kWh (gross) battery pack integrated as a structural element of the chassis. The batteries charge at speeds up to 350 kW and are estimated to provide a range of approximately 530 km on the WLTP cycle, so approximately 450 km should be expected under EPA tests, the publication writes.

Ferrari has equipped the car with a rear-axle steering system, active suspension similar to that used in the F80 hypercar with an advanced version of the expensive Multimatic dampers used in the Purosangue and F80, and torque vectoring on both axles, the publication indicates. This should contribute to an incredible driving experience. Braking is provided by 15.4-inch front brake discs and 14.6-inch rear rotors, hidden inside the largest wheels ever fitted to a road-going Ferrari, measuring 23×9.5 inches at the front and 24×11 inches at the rear. They are available with a five-spoke design or an aerodynamic body kit that reduces air resistance by 5 percent (and makes the car look like a Temu version).

Interior and Exterior Style

Both the controversial exterior and the striking interior were developed in collaboration with Ferrari Centro Stile and LoveFrom, the design consultancy founded by Jony Ive and Marc Newson, the renowned iPhone specialists. Ferrari developed the package, and LoveFrom handled the execution.

The result is the most streamlined Ferrari to date with a drag coefficient of 0.254 Cd, as well as active grille shutters for three heat exchangers that open only when necessary. At the front, the entire fascia resembles a large wing. As air passes through this massive opening, it exits at the base of the windshield, forming a teardrop-shaped glass space. Even the windshield wipers, located in the A-pillars, have a patented design intended to create tiny air vortices without interrupting the airflow. Further back are rear-hinged doors and rear lights set in a black panel. Ferrari did not mention the F40 in its descriptions, but it is clear that this is the look they were aiming for, the publication notes.

Inside is the largest trunk in Ferrari history (597 liters) and seating for five people, which is also a first for Ferrari. Highlights of the Luce interior include physical buttons and controls on the steering wheel, a movable central display responsible for the infotainment system with a similar screen in the back, and a driver display that moves with the steering column. It includes digital displays nested within another screen, and the Luce key sits in the center console where e-Ink technology animates, and the entire cabin is finished in leather, glass, and aluminum—no plastic or carbon fiber.

Price

The Ferrari Luce is a production car, not a special edition that requires joining a waitlist, and excluding numerous options, its price is set at 550,000 euros, or approximately $640,000.
