According to Andrius Kubilius, the US is trying to reach a peace agreement on the war in Ukraine, but they need to understand who Putin is. Appeasement of dictators ends badly, they become more aggressive.

The United States of America is trying to reach a peaceful agreement on Russia's war against Ukraine, but the Americans still need to learn "Putin's lessons" to understand who the Russian dictator really is. This was stated in an interview with LRT by European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius, reports UNN.

Details

According to the diplomat, Putin is now openly mocking the Americans.

One good thing that has come out of this is that when the Americans started acting differently than we were used to – when there was more sincerity in our relationship – the Europeans got excited. Now we are seeing a lot more of the right and necessary efforts to unite and demonstrate our leadership

- he noted.

According to Kubilius, a "certain sobering up" is coming in Washington, and the initial enthusiasm will turn into a deeper understanding of reality. This, he believes, can be seen in the reaction of the markets, which is not always favorable to the Trump administration, as well as in the way Putin "simply ridiculed" the US president.

This will sober up the understanding that it is not always possible to achieve the desired results with such bravado as "we will agree immediately, offer Putin good relations, and that's it." In fact, this is not happening

the European Commissioner pointed out.

He warned that the United States needs to have a better understanding that appeasement of dictators usually ends badly - in favor of the dictators, because when they feel the weakness of the West, they "only become more aggressive and arrogant."

Recall

The Administration of US President Donald Trump does not support the Kremlin's idea to introduce temporary international administration in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN. This was stated during a briefing by US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce. According to her, governance in Ukraine is determined by its Constitution and the Ukrainian people.
