The European Union is stepping up its support for peace and humanitarian initiatives in a number of crisis regions, including the Gaza Strip, Syria, and Sudan. This was stated by EU High Representative Kaja Kallas during a press conference, UNN reports.
Specifically, in Gaza, the EU is preparing to resume missions to train Palestinian law enforcement officers after the opening of the "Rafah" crossing point.
Regarding the situation in Syria, the EU emphasized that the country's stabilization is only possible through an inclusive political transition – a process of forming a new system of government with the participation of all major political forces, the opposition, ethnic and religious groups, and civil society. Such an approach, according to Kallas, should prevent the country from returning to large-scale conflict and chaos.
New sanctions have also been adopted against the parties to the conflict in Sudan due to the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
It will be recalled that the US presented to the UN Security Council a strategy for the demilitarization of Gaza, which provides for the buyback of weapons from militants. The plan aims to remove Hamas from power and destroy its military infrastructure under international supervision.
