EU foreign ministers have agreed to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, stated EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Thursday, UNN reports.

The EU's chief diplomat emphasized: "Any regime that kills thousands of its own citizens is working towards its own destruction."

EU foreign ministers approved new sanctions against Iran, targeting individuals and organizations involved in the brutal suppression of protesters and the country's support for Russia.
It was also expected that EU ministers would "reach a political agreement to include Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the bloc's list of terrorist organizations, which would categorize the IRGC similarly to 'Islamic State' and 'Al-Qaeda,' and mark a symbolic shift in Europe's approach to Iran's leadership."
