The EU's individual sanctions against Russians have been extended for another six months due to the continuation of Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. This is stated in a statement published on the website of the European Council, UNN reports.

Today, the Rada has decided to extend restrictive measures against persons responsible for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine for another six months, until September 15, 2024.

- according to a statement on the EU Council website.

Details

It is noted that the existing restrictive measures include restrictions on the movement of individuals, freezing of assets and a ban on providing funds or other economic resources to individuals and legal entities on the list. The sanctions continue to apply to more than 2,100 individuals and legal entities that in one way or another support Russia's ongoing unjustified military aggression against Ukraine.

It is noted that in the context of the sanctions review, the council also decided not to renew the lists of three people and removed from the list nine people who are considered dead

The European Council also noted that Russia's ability to wage aggressive war must be further weakened, in particular by further strengthening sanctions, as well as by fully and effectively implementing them and preventing their circumvention.

Optional

UNN also reported that the European Parliament adopted a directive (EU regulatory document - ed.) on criminalizing the violation and circumvention of EU sanctions. The document describes the general definition and minimum penalties for violations.
