Due to increased water discharges from the Kyiv Reservoir, the water level in the Dnipro River in Kyiv rose by 29 cm in one day. The first level of danger of hydrological phenomena has been declared. However, no emergency flooding has been recorded in the city so far, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported on Thursday, UNN reports.
Over the past day, the level of the Dnipro River within Kyiv has risen by as much as 29 cm. As of March 14, 2014, it is 583 cm above the "0" post. The water temperature is 3.4 deg. С.
According to monitoring data, over the past 5 days, the level of Ukraine's largest river within the capital has risen by 45 cm.
The KCMA notes that the water is rising due to increased discharges from the Kyiv Reservoir due to the skipping of the spring flood. Therefore, there is an initial flooding of floodplains and low-lying riverine areas.
"Hydrological hazard level I (yellow)," KCMA emphasized.
However, the KCSA reassured that the floods do not pose a threat to Kyiv at the moment. No emergency flooding has been recorded in the city. Industrial facilities and residential areas of the city are out of danger. The critical water level is still more than 1.3 meters away.
According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, in the next few days the level of the Dnipro River in Kyiv will remain above the initial flooding of floodplains and low-lying riverine areas.
