Separately, the work of the coalition of the willing and specific security guarantees that each of the more than 30 countries in it is ready to provide were discussed. During the meeting, the leaders began a substantive discussion of the details regarding security guarantees. As a result, there are already certain projects, and now the relevant teams will work intensively on them. Everything should be formalized within ten days
Zelenskyy emphasized that it is very important for Ukraine that this is not a pause in fighting, but a real peace that can be protected by the security guarantees of our partners.
Among other important topics are the release of prisoners and the return of children abducted by Russia. Zelenskyy thanked US First Lady Melania Trump for her attention to this issue and the letter she handed to Vladimir Putin. The Presidents of Ukraine and the United States agreed to work on preparing an all-for-all prisoner exchange.
The participants discussed the importance of holding a meeting with the Russian side at the level of leaders. All partners agreed that this is the only way to resolve the most sensitive issues.
According to the US President, during the meeting in Alaska, Vladimir Putin agreed to accept security guarantees for Ukraine. "I am optimistic that together we can reach an agreement that will deter any future aggression against Ukraine," Trump said.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte thanked Zelenskyy for his leadership and Donald Trump for his personal efforts. Rutte emphasized the importance of stopping the killings and attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. "Let's do the maximum we can now. I am confident that from today we will come to an end to this as soon as possible," he stressed.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted the readiness of the participants to work on security guarantees for Ukraine. "And I am also glad that you mentioned the thousands of abducted children. As a mother and grandmother, I know how important it is for every child to return home," Ursula von der Leyen added.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized that a ceasefire is an important step before further negotiations to work on a peace agreement. "I cannot imagine that the next meeting will take place without a ceasefire. So let's work on this. And let's put pressure on Russia. Because the ceasefire and the seriousness of the negotiations depend on how we do this," Merz said.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized that peace and justice can only be achieved through unity. "We will talk about security guarantees: how to ensure that this does not happen again. We will begin discussions with a proposal for a model similar to NATO's Article Five," Meloni said.
French President Emmanuel Macron also stressed that a ceasefire is necessary to stop the killings. He also named security guarantees as another necessity.
In addition, as indicated, the meeting discussed the reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine. Zelenskyy noted: this is a great opportunity for future investments, which at the same time is an element of the path to peace.
