The State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation and is establishing the causes of the crash of an F-16 fighter jet in the Poltava region, reported the SBI on Thursday, showing a photo, writes UNN.

According to preliminary information, the SBI noted, "on July 29, 2026, at approximately 18:45, in the Kremenchuk district of the Poltava region, an F-16 aircraft of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine crashed while performing a combat mission." "The pilot managed to eject. His life is currently not in danger," the statement reads.
As stated, immediately after the incident, an investigative-operational group of the Territorial Department of the SBI in the city of Poltava promptly left for the crash site.
"Urgent investigative (search) measures lasted all night and continue in the morning. All circumstances of the aviation incident are being established," the bureau noted.
Information on this fact has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 2 of Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - violation of flight rules or preparation for them, as well as rules for the operation of aircraft, which caused a disaster.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
Procedural guidance is provided by the Poltava Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Defense Sphere of the Central Region.
