The American company Vanguard Energy is in negotiations to supply 250,000 barrels of gasoline and diesel fuel to Cuba, which could become the largest shipment of American fuel to the island since 1960. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.
Details
The company's president, Matthew Klann, stated that the fuel is intended exclusively for the private sector. Vanguard has already leased storage tanks in Cuba and received preliminary approval from local authorities. The cargo will consist of 100,000 barrels of gasoline and 150,000 barrels of diesel fuel.

The energy crisis on the island has worsened following a reduction in supplies from Venezuela and problems with alternative import sources. Due to fuel shortages, the country regularly faces prolonged power outages and public protests.
In February, Cuban authorities allowed private companies to import fuel, which was previously the exclusive prerogative of the state. Following this, Vanguard began making small-scale deliveries.
The deal is not yet finalized
The company has already secured a US-flagged vessel and reached an agreement for fuel supplies from a refinery in Texas. An agreement has also been signed for the use of fuel storage tanks in Cuba.
Despite the advanced stage of negotiations, a final decision on the implementation of the project has not yet been made.
