Incidents such as the drone explosion in the port of Constanța in Romania today are a direct consequence of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, European Council President António Costa stated on X on Friday, UNN reports.
Full solidarity and support for Romania following the drone explosion in the port of Constanța this morning. This is the third significant security incident in Romania in recent weeks. These incidents are a direct consequence of Russia's aggression against Ukraine
The President of the European Council emphasized: "The EU condemns the repeated violations of the airspace of member states and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the security of all member states."
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen joined his statement.
"Solidarity with Romania! A week after a drone crashed into an apartment building in Galați, a maritime drone reached the port of Constanța today. This is a direct consequence of Russia's war against Ukraine," von der Leyen wrote on X.
She pointed out: "This is increasingly becoming a direct threat to the countries on our eastern border. Our solidarity with every member state facing these threats is absolute. And our response must match the urgency. Europe is investing massively in anti-drone capabilities, air defense, and early warning systems. SAFE will help build a stronger Romania. And a stronger Europe."
European Commission spokesperson Anita Hipper also stated during a daily briefing on Friday: "We are fully aware of what is happening in Romania and the new drone incident, and the European Union expresses its full solidarity with Romania. We have also seen the statement by the President of Romania that the Romanian authorities are currently investigating the circumstances, and that the drone reached the port, and they will consider all potential risks."
"This incident once again clearly shows that this is what the Russians are doing, and it is a direct result of Russian aggression in Ukraine, therefore Russia bears full responsibility for the escalatory measures affecting EU member states. On our part, I return again to the position of the 27 EU countries and the initial statement, as there was recently another incident in Galați, where leaders expressed their solidarity, and this once again shows the need to strengthen our defense, our security on the eastern flank, as well as our protection against such threats," the European Commission spokesperson noted.
