A meteorite exploded in the sky over the northeastern United States, causing powerful sonic booms heard by residents of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. This was reported by The Guardian with reference to NASA, according to UNN.

According to the space agency, the fireball disintegrated over northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire on Saturday after 2:00 p.m. local time. NASA estimates the explosion's energy was equivalent to approximately 300 tons of TNT.

Houses shook from the blast wave

NASA noted that the meteor was traveling at a speed of about 120,000 kilometers per hour at an altitude of about 64 kilometers when it began to break up in the atmosphere.

This fireball was not associated with any active meteor shower, but it was a natural object, not space debris or a satellite re-entering the atmosphere

– stated Jennifer Dooren, NASA's deputy news chief.

Local residents reported loud explosions and tremors on social media that caused windows and walls to shake in some homes. According to the agency, meteorite fragments may have fallen in sparsely populated areas, but there is no information regarding casualties or damage.
