Approximately 287 candidates have been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, and U.S. President Donald Trump may be among the likely nominees. This was reported by Reuters, citing a statement by the Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Kristian Berg Harpviken, according to UNN.

According to Harpviken, in this year's nominations, 208 candidates were proposed by individuals and 79 by organizations. He added that there were many new nominees compared to last year.
"Since I am new to this position, one of the things that surprised me to some extent is how strikingly the list changes from year to year,"
He emphasized that the award remains relevant amid the growing number of conflicts in the world and the pressure on international cooperation.
"The Peace Prize carries even more weight in a period like the one we are living in now. There are as many, if not more, good deeds being done now than ever before,"
Reuters adds that the leaders of Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan stated in the summer of 2025 that they had nominated Trump for this year's prize. At the same time, there is no way to verify whether these statements were officially confirmed, as nominations remain secret for 50 years, and Harpviken declined to say on Thursday whether Trump had been nominated.
It is noted that many names appear on betting websites regarding nominees and potential laureates this year. In particular, Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Pope Leo XIV, and the Sudanese volunteer aid group Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) are mentioned.
Harpviken also expressed deep concern over the health of 2023 Peace Prize laureate, Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi, which deteriorated after a heart attack in prison.

Among the possible candidates mentioned are U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski and Danish Member of Parliament from Greenland Aaja Chemnitz, who were nominated by Norwegian MP Lars Haltbrekken.
This year's Nobel Peace Prize laureate will be announced on October 9, and the award ceremony will take place on December 10.
