The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance has called on the expert commission to further analyze and clarify the professional opinion on the monuments to writer Mikhail Bulgakov. This is stated in a statement by the UINP on Facebook, UNN reports.
Details
It is noted that the Institute of National Remembrance asks to clarify the conclusion of experts regarding the belonging of objects dedicated to Mikhail Bulgakov to the symbols of russian imperial policy.
On April 11, Anton Drobovych, the Head of the ULIP, held a working meeting with Viktor Brekhunenko, the Head of the Expert Commission, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor. The Chairman thanked the experts for their pro bono work within the Commission. At the same time, he drew attention to the published criticisms of some of the commission's conclusions, in particular, the comments of the Bulgakov Literary and Memorial Museum in Kyiv
They also emphasized that the expert commission is an independent body. The IPCC provides support to the commission, but it is the members of the commission, as elected experts, who make the conclusions
The Institute of National Memory explained that the commission provides professional opinions on whether or not names, objects, etc. belong to the symbols of russian imperial policy. However, it is not authorized to determine what the new names will be or how objects will be modified or moved from public space.
Recognition or non-recognition of geographical objects, names of legal entities, monuments and memorials dedicated to Bulgakov as symbols of russian imperial policy is not a "ban on Bulgakov." We call for separating the issues of glorification in the public space and access to the results of research and creative activity
Addendum
Separately, the Institute of National Memory noted that the conclusion of the Expert Commission on Mikhail Bulgakov is not a guideline for closing the Bulgakov Literary and Memorial Museum in Kyiv.
It is noted that after the full-scale invasion, the museum focused its efforts on its qualitative transformation. The museum staff held a series of expert discussions on how the museum should be updated, which deserve attention.
Recall
Experts of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory recognized Mikhail Bulgakov as a symbol of russian imperial policy, stating that his works demonstrate a biased and negative attitude towards Ukrainians and Ukrainian culture.
