Day of Remembrance of the Great Martyr Marina (Margaret)
According to the new (New Julian) calendar, on July 17, the OCU and UGCC honor Saint Marina. Among the people, this day was often called "Marina the Fiery" or the feast of Marina and Lazarus. It was believed that during this period there are often strong thunderstorms with bright lightning without thunder. They avoided working in the field on this day so that lightning would not burn the harvest.
For those who adhere to the old (Julian) calendar: on July 17, they honor the memory of Saint Andrew of Crete. In folk tradition, the day was called "Andrew the Pourer," because by mid-July, oat ears were filling in the fields and active preparation for the harvest began.
