President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that snap elections will be held in Serbia this fall. The decision was made against the backdrop of ongoing anti-government protests in the country.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that he plans to announce early elections to be held between late September and mid-November, as he faces more than a year of anti-government protests, UNN reports, citing Bloomberg.

"The elections will take place in the period between September and November, that is, from late September to mid-November," Vučić told the state broadcaster RTS on Thursday.

The elections for the country's 250-seat parliament will be the fifth for Serbia in a decade and the fourth snap elections. Vučić's party has dominated elections since 2012.

Serbia has been rocked by student-led protests that began after a railway station roof collapse in 2024, which killed 16 people. Opposition parties and activists blame corruption and government incompetence for the incident.
