The Verkhovna Rada has appealed to the UN regarding the legal grounds for Russia's membership in the UN, UNN reports, citing MP Oleksiy Honcharenko.

Details

According to Honcharenko, the Rada supported the draft Resolution on the Verkhovna Rada's Appeal to the Parliaments and Governments of Foreign Countries No. 12277 on the legal grounds for Russia's membership in the UN. “287 MPs voted in favor.

The MPs also appealed to the parliaments and governments of the countries regarding the ineffectiveness of security guarantees under the Budapest Memorandum. Their appeal consisted of the following points:

- to give Ukraine permission to conduct long-range strikes against all legitimate military targets on Russian territory;

- to appeal to national governments to make a decision on inviting Ukraine to join NATO;

- expand sanctions against Russia and provide military support to Ukraine;

- continue to put pressure on Russia until Ukraine fully restores its territorial integrity within its internationally recognized state border;

- consolidate efforts to bring the military and political leadership of the Russian Federation to justice for the crime of aggression.

Recall

Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, stated earlier this year that the permanent members of the UN Security Council are not ready not only to take practical steps to deprive the Russian Federation of all its powers, but also to start a political discussion on this topic.
