The United States is launching a military operation to ensure the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, deploying guided-missile destroyers and approximately 15,000 personnel. This was reported by U.S. Central Command, according to UNN.

The operation, named Project Freedom, begins on May 4 and involves escorting commercial vessels through the strategic waterway.

More than 100 land- and sea-based aircraft, as well as multi-role unmanned platforms, are also involved in the mission.

"Our support for this defensive mission is critical for regional security and the global economy,"

stated CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper.

Approximately one-quarter of the world's maritime oil trade, as well as significant volumes of fuel and fertilizers, passes through the Strait of Hormuz.

The operation is also being coordinated with international partners under the Maritime Freedom Construct initiative, which involves strengthening cooperation between diplomatic and military structures to ensure security in the region.
