A lawsuit against Google was filed by the US Department of Justice, which accused the company of controlling about 90% of the online search market.
In his decision, District Judge amet Mehta noted that Google spent billions of dollars to secure its default search engine status on smartphones and browsers.
"Google is a monopolist and has acted accordingly to maintain its monopoly," Judge Mehta wrote in his ruling.
