The US Air Force has begun renaming Joint Base Charleston in honor of the late South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. This was reported by a US Air Force representative, as conveyed by UNN with reference to AP.
An official speaking on condition of anonymity stated that US Air Force Secretary Troy Meink signed a memorandum on Monday to begin the process of renaming the base to Joint Base Lindsey Graham.
According to the official, there are no specific timelines yet for renaming the base, which is located near Charleston International Airport. The renaming was previously reported by the Post and Courier newspaper.
According to information on the Senate website, Graham served for over 30 years in the Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and Air National Guard, working as a lawyer before retiring with the rank of colonel.
A memorial service was held in his honor on Tuesday following his sudden death on July 11.
