The Ukrainian parliament has officially appealed to the leadership of democratic states in Europe and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) with a demand to impose a complete ban on the participation of Belarusian national teams and clubs in international tournaments. The Verkhovna Rada adopted the corresponding resolution No. 14205 in its entirety, as reported on the official website of the agency, writes UNN.
Details
The appeal contains a call to UEFA to decide on a complete ban on the participation of the national teams of the Republic of Belarus and its club teams in international competitions.
This sanction, according to the parliamentarians, should remain in effect "until the complete cessation of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the restoration of the territorial integrity of our state within its internationally recognized state border, including its territorial waters."
Diplomatic pressure and visa restrictions
In addition to sports sanctions, Ukrainian lawmakers propose that heads of state, parliaments, and governments of democratic European countries apply administrative levers of influence.
In particular, it is proposed to "make a decision on restricting the entry of Belarusian athletes and sports delegations into their territory" until Ukraine's sovereignty is restored.
This initiative is a response to Belarus's role in the war, as the sports isolation of the aggressor and its ally is seen as a necessary element of international pressure.
