The U.S. Supreme Court has temporarily allowed President Donald Trump’s administration to continue construction of the White House ballroom, suspending a lower court ruling that halted the work. This is stated in the court’s August 21 decision, Reuters reports, writes UNN.

The decision was issued by Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts. It does not finally resolve the question of the project’s legality, but merely allows the work to continue while the court considers the Trump administration’s appeal.
The ballroom project is estimated to cost $400 million. To implement it, the White House’s East Wing was demolished on Trump’s orders. The presidential administration claims that the complex is of great importance to national security.
Earlier, a federal appeals court ruled that the construction required approval from the U.S. Congress and blocked a substantial portion of the work. The Trump administration appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, stating that halting construction would cause significant harm to the project.
The Supreme Court’s temporary decision allows construction to continue, but a final ruling on the project’s legality has not yet been issued.
