The National Guard of Ukraine received the first batch of Varta-2 armored vehicles from Ukrainian Armored Technology on August 21, 2026. Defense Express reports this, writes UNN.
Details
Two vehicles were transferred to the NGU—one for the 2nd Khartia Corps and another for a different unit whose name has not been disclosed. Before the transfer, the servicemen underwent training in operating the armored vehicles and familiarized themselves with their main components and assemblies. The delivery of another batch is expected in the near future.
One of the servicemen of the 2nd Khartia Corps said that the Varta-2 was of high quality and had good off-road capability, comparing it with other vehicles he had used. The armored vehicles will now be evaluated directly during combat operations.
What protection does the Varta-2 have
The vehicles transferred to the NGU currently have no armament or even an armored turret for a machine gun. At the same time, the design allows the installation of combat modules with machine guns or a 30 mm automatic cannon, depending on the customer's requirements.
The Varta-2 weighs 14 tons and is equipped with independent suspension and a 6.7-liter turbo diesel engine producing 360 hp. The armored vehicle has a maximum speed of 110 km/h.
The vehicle has Level 3a/b protection under STANAG 4569. This provides protection against 7.62 mm bullets and B32 armor-piercing incendiary ammunition from a distance of 10 meters, as well as resistance to blasts of up to 8 kg of explosives in TNT equivalent. Additional protection is provided by spaced armor, a V-shaped bottom, and a suspended floor.
The Varta-2 had previously been used by individual NGU units, including the 12th Special Forces Brigade "Azov" and the 2nd Khartia Corps. The vehicle was codified and approved for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine back in June 2025.
