The European Union plans to revise trade conditions with Ukraine, which will lead to a reduction in import quotas. EU countries do not support the extension of current conditions due to problems in some member states.

European Commissioner for Agriculture Christoph Hansen stated that the European Union expects a reduction in agricultural imports from Ukraine after the review of trade conditions. Hansen stated this in an interview with AFP, reports UNN.

Details

According to the European Commissioner, Brussels seeks to "find a new agreement" for trade with Ukraine before the current partial liberalization measures expire in June.

Discussions should be quick. The European Union is ready for negotiations, and this should happen in the coming weeks. Import quotas will not remain the same as during this temporary liberalization. So, indeed, there will be less import

- he said.

Christoph Hansen noted that EU countries do not support the extension of the current trade conditions with Ukraine, as they "caused problems, especially in some member states."

Reminder

The EU may not extend trade preferences for Ukraine after June 6, 2025. This could lead to annual losses for the Ukrainian economy of EUR 3.5-4 billion and a return to the old system of quotas and duties.
