"A hero in a Polish bus verbally 'fought' with children and women. It doesn't take much intelligence or courage for that," the Foreign Minister wrote.
According to Sybiha, after Ukrainian diplomats learned about the incident, they contacted Polish law enforcement agencies.
"Upon learning of the incident, the Ukrainian side appealed to Polish law enforcement with a request for an appropriate response to the man's inappropriate behavior and humiliation of Ukrainians' dignity on the grounds of nationality," the minister noted.
As reported by Polish Radio, the incident occurred on July 11 on bus route No. 8 in Bielsko-Biała. The man insulted Ukrainian teenagers because of their nationality. After a video recording of the conflict appeared online, the police identified and detained the suspect.
According to information from the municipal carrier MZK, the detainee is an employee of the company who works as a driver, but has been on sick leave for a long time and was not performing his duties on the day of the incident.
Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland Marcin Kierwiński stated that law enforcement responds to such cases, although establishing all the circumstances takes some time.
Currently, the Polish police are checking whether the incident bears signs of a crime committed on the grounds of national hatred. MZK also reported its intention to file a separate statement with law enforcement agencies and apply disciplinary measures to its employee.
