A cable car with a record inclination of 160% was opened on the way to the top of the Schiltthorn. The cable car is equipped with an autonomous control system and panoramic windows that open.

On the way to the top of the Schilthorn in Bernese Oberland, where the James Bond movie was once filmed, the world's steepest suspended cable car was put into operation. This is reported by vorarlberg.orf.at, according to UNN.

Details

It is noted that the road on the Stehelberg-Murren section has a record slope of almost 160%.

The cable car is equipped with the AURO (Autonomous Ropeway Operation) system, which allows partially autonomous operation. Safety is ensured by modern cameras and sensors, and a special robot optimizes the transportation of luggage and cargo.

The Murren-Birg area was the site of the launch of the first Funifor cable car in Switzerland. Thanks to the wide arrangement of the cables, the road is resistant to strong winds, and the cabins, which can accommodate 85 passengers, ensure year-round operation, even during maintenance.

Two cabins with a capacity of 85 people each carry up to 800 passengers per hour. According to the company, the cable car covers a height of 775 meters in less than four minutes.

- the publication writes.

The cabs were developed by Carvatech, also part of the Doppelmayr Group. A unique feature is the panoramic windows that can be opened, providing an incredible view without glass. In addition, the energy saving system allows energy to be recovered during braking, reducing energy consumption.

According to the publication, the Schilthorn was the location for some key scenes of the 1969 James Bond movie “On Her Majesty's Secret Service.” In the movie, the mountain was called “Piz Gloria”.
